Today’s kids love electronics, often pestering parents to use their high-tech gadgets such as cellular telephones or notepads. However, parents often prefer that their children have a toy which combines high-tech electronics with educational outcomes, allowing them to learn and have fun at the same time. The LeapPad Explorer™ combines exciting play options with electronic technology, allowing kids to learn and explore the word of high-tech electronics at the same time.

One of the Hottest Holiday Gifts for 2011

The LeapPad Explorer™ was launched in August of 2011 and promises to be one of the Christmas season’s hottest buys. Supplies may be limited in some markets and if you plan on buying a LeapPad Explorer™ as a holiday gift there may be no better time to get the right price than Black Friday weekend.

The LeapPad Explorer™ consists of a unit with a five-inch touch-screen display, just like a “real” notepad. The unit is sturdy and built to withstand little hands and dropping but does not have onboard wireless service and must be hooked up to your computer.

The LeapPad Explorer™ comes in both pink and green casings to suit your child’s taste. Access to the LeapFrog Learning Path™ is included with the unit. This means that you will have access to a variety of educational activities for your child, and can monitor progress through easy-to-use software applications included with the unit. LeapFrog Learning Path™ integrates with all other LeapFrog™ toys, as well, so your child can continue his or her progress from another toy with the new LeapPad Explorer™.

Can the LeapPad Explorer™ accept apps?

The unit features 2 GB of memory, which allows for the storage of lots of photos, videos, and other media. Although no third-party apps are available, you can upgrade the LeapFrog Learning Path™ by purchasing additional apps specifically designed for this unit.

There are quite a few apps integrated with the unit. Art programs, a Disney Animation Studio™ app, and photo apps are all included. The unit has a built-in camera, videorecorder and microphone for your budding director, and easy-to-operate stylus or finger-driven interactions.

There are several methods of data input, making it easy for children ages four to nine, to whom the unit is marketed, to operate it. Children can enter data by touching with a finger, shaking the unit, using the stylus, or dragging. An extra stylus is included for parents to set aside in case one is lost. Games will automatically adjust for the child’s ability level and age, or can be adjusted by the parent.

LeapPad Explorer™ is Definetely Making Kids Leap into Technology faster!

The LeapPad Explorer™ is definitely a huge leap for small children into the world of technology, allowing them an easy entry-point to develop skills which they will use with other gadgets in the future. More importantly, however, the learning aspects of the game are truly instructional and well-suited for the age of the child. Since games automatically adjust for ability level, no child will experience the frustration of not being able to handle a game—a common complaint for younger children with “adult” game systems. There are enough apps to keep the child busy and happy, and each one is integrated into the entire learning process. By allowing the parent to monitor progress, the LeapPad Explorer™ can be an integral piece in your child’s reading and learning advancement.

Possible LeapPad Explorer™ Drawbacks

The biggest drawbacks to the LeapPad Explorer™ are the lack of integrated internet access and the price. Like most high-tech electronics, the LeapPad Explorer™ is relatively expensive, with a suggested retail price of $99.99. While you may be able to find the unit for less, other stores may charge more, especially as the holidays approach.

If you are considering a LeapPad Explorer™ for your child for Christmas, it is best to begin shopping early. Black Friday sales may offer great prices, but the supplies will probably be exhausted early. If you are planning on shopping on Black Friday at certain stores, be sure to put the LeapPad Explorer™ on your list for your earliest shopping. Many major toy retailers hold very early hours on Black Friday, some as early as 3 a.m., so be sure to check your store’s websites for information.

You may also be able to get your LeapPad Explorer™ early by shopping online Black Friday  sales. Most major retailers have an online version of Black Friday, often held earlier than Black Friday itself. For example, Cyber Thursday, or Thanksgiving Day, has become a major day for retailers to offer online sales prior to their bricks-and-mortar stores’ Black Friday sales. Be sure to check the websites of your favorite retailers to see if there are coupons or discounts you can take advantage of by ordering online.
