About the new Microsoft™ Xbox 360 Slim®
The improvements start with the new, sleeker design. While the old Xbox® might be described as “clunky,” this slender version weighs 17% less and features a glossy black exterior. Touch-sensitive grooves replace the old buttons on the front of the console, and two hidden USB ports provide connectivity for your controllers or other peripherals. There are a total of five USB ports scattered around the unit, and the system also features an IR port which allows compatibility with high-end remote control devices.
Best of all, Microsoft™ has addressed the loud fan noise of previous units, so the new Microsoft™ Xbox 360 Slim® is “whisper” quiet in operation. The perforated vent allows for better cooling, as well. A 250GB hard drive and better-designed internals aim to avoid problems associated with the old Xbox® consoles, such as the “red ring of death” associated with overheating. This version also sports built-in wi-fi, something missing from the old units. The back of the unit includes a dedicated optical audio-video port for use with HDMI, as well as a Microsoft™ Kinect® port. The unit offers standard DVD playback, but no Blu-Ray® compatibility.
