With all the available cell phones, you may be wondering just how to choose the right model for your holiday gift giving. If you are looking for a durable, tough phone with great call quality, the Motorola™ Brute i686® may be your choice. Living up to its name, this phone is very impact- and usage-resistant, and audio quality is among its best features.

How strong is the Motorola™ Brute i686® phone?

Believe it or not, this phone can actually withstand immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes without losing performance—a truly unique feature among the more delicate and technologically-enhanced phones on the market. It is rugged and tough, as a “Brute” should be; this translates, however, into a less-than-pretty appearance that may turn off some phone aficionados, and its 5.6-ounce weight is higher than some users prefer. If appearance is not your primary goal, however, this phone certainly delivers in terms of performance, and the black cover, while very craggy, is not unattractive.

What are the specs of the Motorola™ Brute i686® phone?

Inside the military-looking cover, the phone sports a 220 x 176-pixel resolution screen and a built-in camera. The phone has a 2.5 mm headset jack, rather than the more popular 3.5 mm size. A micro SD slot is housed next to the battery. Raised keys make texting and dialing easier, and the 600-contact address book supports push-to-call on Nextel’s™ system.

The phone is designed to be a phone, unlike many of the new handhelds which are primarily media devices, but it does have stereo Bluetooth and an application manager for the limited web capabilities, and offers GPS capability, as well. The Motorola™ Brute i686® also supports limited multimedia functions, such as a stereo player which offers shuffle, repeat, and equalizer options. Music can be downloaded via the included USB cable, or through a separately-purchased SD card of up to 8GB.

The 2 mega-pixel camera is rather average, but takes adequate pictures on the fly. You can purchase additional apps via the WAP 2.0 browser, but application integration is limited; this is simply not a “smart” phone, and its functions are designed toward the telephone rather than the web. Battery life will extend for about five hours between charges with constant use.

How much is the Motorola™ Brute i686® phone?

Priced at $139.99, this phone is a great upgrade for a mobile phone user who is not ready to move into smart phone territory, or for a young person or active worker who requires a phone which will put up with a certain amount of abuse. For the person on your list who needs a phone which acts like a “real” phone, the Motorola™ Brute i686® could be the perfect choice.

You can find great deals on the Motorola™ Brute i686® and other electronics with Black Friday sales. The Motorola™ Brute i686® is aligned with the Nextel™ phone network, and can be purchased through their stores and websites. To find Black Friday deals, check the website and newspaper advertisements for sales on or around the Friday after Thanksgiving; with a contract purchase, you can save significant money on a Motorola™ Brute i686® and other cell phone purchases.
